The Selous Game Reserve is one of the largest protected nature areas in Africa. It measures approximately 50,000 square kilometers. Unlike national parks, game reserves allow for some very restricted human activity (like hunting), but no people are allowed to live in the park.
This means many beautiful animals have found their home here. We love Selous because there is a huge variety in landscapes and animals! Elephants, buffalos, impalas, giraffes and zebras are numerous and even cheetahs and the rare black rhinos can sometimes be seen. The beautiful Rufiji River splits the Reserve in two sides and is home to hippos and crocodiles. The river also attracts many animals for its drinking water, which makes it a perfect place for a safari.
The best way to explore the river is by boat, but also with a regular game drive you will see plenty of animals here. Doing a safari in Selous with us means you will see water, savannah as well as forests – a unique experience!
At 6:00am we pick you up at your hotel or home in Dar Es Salaam, after which we drive straight to Selous Game Reserve. In the early afternoon we arrive at Mloka village, which is one kilomter from the gate of the park. Here we will have lunch.
After lunch we start your first game drive* in Selous! As the park closes at six we will go to our camp just outside the gate, where we will prepare you a lovely dinner before you dive into your tents for a good night sleep.
After an early breakfast we will head into the park for a beautiful morning game drive*. At around 12:00pm we start going back to Dar Es Salaam. We will enjoy lunch somewhere on the way and drop you safe and sound at your home or hotel around 6:00pm.
* Boat safari and walking safari can be arranged on request for an additional fee.
** This program is available all throughout the year. For 40 USD per person per night extra it's also possible to stay in a lodge.
